Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Have Kittens Available?
This is our most frequently asked question. Availability is reflected on our Available Kittens page using the following status designations:
AVAILABLE
Adoption applications are currently being accepted.
HOLD
The kitten is being considered by an approved applicant. Availability is unlikely to change.
RESERVED
A signed contract has been returned and the non-refundable reservation fee has been received. Availability is unlikely to change.
SOLD
The contract has been completed and payment has been made in full. The kitten is officially placed.
EVALUATION
The kitten is under breeder observation and is not available at this time.
STAYS
The kitten will remain with Annasophia Royal Maine Coons for future showing and/or breeding programs.
How Do I Reserve a Kitten?
The reservation process begins with the submission of an Adoption Application.
Kittens are typically released from EVALUATION and made available between 4–6 weeks of age. Each applicant is carefully reviewed to ensure the best possible match for both kitten and family. Approval is granted at our discretion.
Once an approved applicant expresses interest in a specific kitten, a contract is provided for review. Upon receipt of the signed contract, the kitten is placed on HOLD. The non-refundable reservation fee is due within seven (7) days. Once received, the kitten’s status transitions to RESERVED.
Please Note:
Submitting an application or returning a signed contract does not guarantee placement. A kitten is only officially reserved once the reservation fee has been received. If payment is not completed within the allotted timeframe, the kitten will return to AVAILABLE status.
Annasophia Royal Maine Coons reserves the right to retain first pick of any litter for future breeding or show purposes and may refuse placement at any stage of the adoption process. Any funds paid beyond the reservation fee will be reimbursed accordingly.
What Is the Average Price of a Maine Coon?
Maine Coons are considered the most prestigious and sought-after cat breed in the United States. Prices typically range from $1,800 to $5,000, with average annual maintenance costs of approximately $1,000, excluding professional grooming.
We strongly advise caution when encountering prices significantly below the national average. These listings often represent scams, mixed-breed kittens, or cats produced without appropriate health testing or ethical breeding standards.
Equally important is caution toward breeders charging premium prices without performing essential health evaluations. At Annasophia Royal Maine Coons, we prioritize comprehensive and often costly testing, including:
Advanced cardiac echocardiograms performed by a board-certified cardiologist to screen for HCM
Hip X-rays to assess for moderate to severe Hip Dysplasia
In rare cases, a queen or sire may not have completed all testing due to medical or scheduling circumstances. In such instances, breeding rights are not offered, and a five-year health guarantee is provided through our contract. HCM results are shared publicly on our social media, website, and documentation or cardiologist contact information can be made available upon request.
Hip certification through OFA is finalized at two years of age. Preliminary hip X-rays are performed between 4–6 months and evaluated by our veterinarian prior to any breeding decisions.
What Is the Cost of an Annasophia Royal Maine Coon Kitten?
Our kitten pricing begins at $3,000 and reflects the exceptional care, health testing, and socialization invested in every kitten.
Each kitten is placed as a companion and includes:
Spay or neuter
Age-appropriate core vaccinations
Microchip identification
Kittens go home with a thoughtfully curated care package, including registration paperwork, vaccination records, transitional food, and a selection of favorite toys.
What Is a Reservation Fee?
The reservation fee confirms an adopter’s commitment and allows us to formally reserve a specific kitten.
Amount: $600
Due: Within seven (7) days of contract signing
Refundable: No
Applied to: Total purchase price
This fee transitions a kitten from HOLD to RESERVED status.
What Age Will My Kitten Go Home?
Kittens are released only after meeting our strict standards for health, development, and social readiness. Most kittens are ready to transition to their new homes between 13–16 weeks of age.
This timeline allows for:
Full recovery from spay/neuter surgery
Emotional and behavioral maturity
A smoother, more confident adjustment to their new environment
Do You Allow Cattery Visits?
For the health, safety, and biosecurity of our family and cats, in-person cattery visits are not permitted.
Approved applicants may schedule a private FaceTime virtual visit. Additionally, new families are invited to join our Facebook group, where updates, photos, and videos can be shared by our extended cattery family.
What Should I Prepare Before My Kitten Arrives?
We encourage families to prepare thoughtfully in advance to ensure a seamless transition.
Litter & Litter Boxes
Our kittens are accustomed to Tidy Cats litter. We recommend XL litter pans suitable for adult Maine Coons. Ideally, each cat should have access to its own litter box to prevent behavioral issues.
Food & Water Bowls
We recommend glass or stainless steel bowls only, as plastic has been linked to feline chin acne. Our kittens and adults are fed Nulo dry and canned, along with raw once in a while and Costco premium plus plus kibble.
Carrier
Please select a XL carrier large enough to accommodate an adult Maine Coon. For travel comfort, placing a puppy pad inside the carrier is advised.
Grooming
A high-quality metal comb is essential for weekly grooming. Regular brushing prevents painful matting and helps kittens acclimate to routine grooming. If coat maintenance becomes challenging, a professional cat groomer is recommended.
Do You Offer Delivery?
Yes. We offer both ground and air delivery services.
Delivery fees vary based on distance, time, and travel method. We provide complimentary delivery within two (2) hours of our cattery. All transport arrangements prioritize the comfort and safety of your kitten.
